A small seep at a fitting or seal can often be repaired by replacing the seal or tightening the connection and topping up the oil. A heavy leak with a leaf that no longer holds position suggests worn internal parts. We clean the unit, find the leak source, check the oil level and test how well the leaf holds against pushing.

Whether replacement parts can be obtained depends on the model, so we confirm that on site before suggesting repair.

This is nearly always the safety circuit. A photocell with a dirty or misaligned lens, a damaged cable, or a safety edge that has been pressed will tell the board to refuse closing. Some boards also have a setting that stops auto-close after an obstruction was sensed.

You can wipe the photocell lenses and check that nothing blocks the beam. If the gate still will not close, a technician will test each safety input on the board to find which one is open.

A barrier arm that bounces on lifting or sags afterwards usually has a balancing issue. The spring may have weakened, the arm may have been replaced with a different length or weight, or an accessory such as a skirt or lights has changed the load. A worn drive part can also let the arm fall.

We check the spring tension, arm weight, drive and mounting, and rebalance it so the arm holds at any point of travel.

A visit covers lubrication, hinges or wheels, hydraulic or gearbox condition, limit settings, safety devices and the release. We will suggest a visit interval after seeing your gate.

Tell us the gate type (sliding, swing or barrier), roughly how old it is and what the fault looks like. If you can, send a photo of the operator and its label. Note any recent events such as a power cut, a vehicle hit or building work near the gate.

A boom barrier arm that has been hit by a vehicle is usually bent rather than fully broken, and a mild bend in an aluminium or fibreglass arm can sometimes be straightened. A sharp bend, a crack, or damage near the mounting bracket is a safety risk and the arm should be replaced rather than repaired.

We also check the barrier's mechanism and counterweight spring after any impact, since a bent arm can throw off the balance even if the arm itself still looks usable.
