A humming motor that does not turn often has a failed start capacitor, a seized gearbox, or a gate that has jammed so the motor cannot overcome it. Try releasing the gate with the manual release and push it by hand. If it moves freely, the fault is electrical. If it is stiff, the track, wheels or hinges are the cause.
Do not keep pressing the remote, as it can overheat the motor. A technician can test the capacitor, windings and board output and tell you whether repair is sensible.
